the life and times of sherrena

 Hey... Where's the beef?

Easter was fine.... went to a BBQ.... At least that's what they said it was but when I got there the only BBQ they had was the sauce... Of course they had chicken and sausages but BBQ to me means BBQ.... I guess they thought grilling out side was the BBQ...

play it forward... pay it forward....

This morning after feeding my chickens I was sitting in my drive way playing with my puppies when I heard my other dogs start to bark… I looked up the drive way to the gate and there was an old man standing by and old truck… I could see his arm waving to me and I held my hand up to show him I saw him… I drove down and he walked up to the gate… He seemed to be mad but I had no idea why…. His face was red and his finger came up and I was looking at the tip of it as he began to speak… “Now look a here girl! I own this easement that runs down along this house…. You know what that means?”… I just stood there looking at him trying to remember where I saw him before… “Yes Sir”….. I replied… (Last year I had been told about the right away to that grave yard) “It means I own your drive way! And your gate is locked all the time! And I own that cemetery out back! ( Hadn't I said yes sir? ) And I sent out 3 crews to come clean it up and they come back telling me that they cant get to it cause YOUR gate on MY driveway is keeping them from it!”.. I stood there a moment trying to soak it all in because we own our land…And the gate that locks people off our land…. I knew we didn’t own that cemetery out back though… then to smooth it all over I gave him the numbers to the gate…. And then I remembered where I saw him from! Well not him… But his great grand father! When I first went down to that cemetery I wrote names off the stones and looked them up… Really only the Confederate soldiers… and the slaves that are buried on the other side of the fence… And that old man looks exactly like his great grand father! They had come here from the Carolina’s and brought 50 slaves with them…. That’s what the web said anyway… Now after the shock of everything and I smoothed his feathers by telling him that I go down there and visit occasionally and that I made my husband pull a huge cedar tree off the fence after the hurricane had blown it down and he softened up to me a little… I told him I had noticed that some of his family had been soldiers… And that seemed to open the gate to the history of this place…. Now I know when you live in the past it costs you the present… but to not know History will doom all of us too repeat past mistakes. .. So that’s one of the reason I love History…. There is an Indian mound here! He told me that it was down by the river! Remember my trusty treasure hunter?!….. Of course you do…. Well I plan on taking it down there and looking around… Here’s the problem… There’s a lot of river to cover and I was too involved in listening to ASK any questions! Isn’t it funny how you remember all the things you should have said AFTER the fact? Now, I think I might need to learn to read a map… I know the river wasn’t in that exact spot 150 years ago…. I’m figuring aeration… How about you? I could just kick my self for not asking him EXACTLY where the mound was! But besides all that…. I plan on taking flowers and putting them on THE OTHER SIDE of the fence…. The side that know one has been to visit in a long, long time…. It isn’t right for people to be forgotten… I have always been a little afraid of going into the tall grass down there but after that old mans people leave I’m going to take my weed eater down there and make the other side look really nice…. And there are NO MARKERS! I figure because they weren’t made of stone…or marble… maybe wood…. So maybe I can fix this…. I noticed that the last time I visited my mother’s grave that someone had spruced it up a bit…. They had made sure that the sink holes had been filled in and they had planted blue bonnets… I have no idea who could have done it… just that they did… I plan on returning the favor… For those poor souls that died slaves…. I have flower seeds and a few rose bushes left over from my yard…. And I have some nice rocks that I brought from Texas…. I think they would approve… Maybe someone else in the next 100 years can do it again….. Wouldn’t that be something?

 How does your light shine?....

Shambala
( Three Dog Night )

Wash away my trouble, wash away my pain
With the rain of Shambala
Wash away my sorrow, wash away my shame
With the rain of Shambala

Ah, ooh ooh oo oo ooh ooh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Ah, ooh ooh oo oo ooh ooh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Everyone is helpful, everyone is kind
We're on the road to Shambala
Everyone is lucky, everyone is kind
We're on the road to Shambala

Ah, ooh ooh oo oo ooh ooh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Ah, ooh ooh oo oo ooh ooh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

How does your light shine, in the halls of Shambala?
How does your light shine, in the halls of Shambala?

I can tell my sister by the flowers in her eyes
She's on the road to Shambala
I can tell my brother by the flowers in her eyes
He's on the road to Shambala

Ah, ooh ooh oo oo ooh ooh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Ah, ooh ooh oo oo ooh ooh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

How does your light shine, in the halls of Shambala?
(Tell me) How does your light shine, in the halls of Shambala?
